Computer Floppy Disk Device :

2. Floppy Disk Types: Two common sizes of floppy disks were 3.5-inch disks and 5.25-inch disks. The 3.5-inch disks became more popular due to their higher capacity and more robust design.
3. Storage Capacity: Floppy disks had limited storage capacity, typically ranging from 360 kilobytes (KB) for 5.25-inch disks to 1.44 megabytes (MB) for 3.5-inch High-Density (HD) disks.
4. Applications: Floppy disks were commonly used for data storage, transferring files between computers, and for booting the operating system on early personal computers.
5. Obsolescence: As technology advanced, floppy disks became outdated due to their limited storage capacity, slow data transfer rates, and vulnerability to data loss. They were gradually replaced by other storage media like CDs, DVDs, USB flash drives, and later, solid-state drives (SSDs).
6. Floppy Disk Drives in History: In the past, floppy disk drives were a standard feature on personal computers. They were primarily used for installing software, backing up small amounts of data, and transferring files. Floppy disks were prevalent from the 1970s to the late 1990s and early 2000s.
7. Modern Alternatives: Modern computers no longer include floppy disk drives as standard equipment. Instead, they often come with USB ports for connecting external storage devices like USB flash drives or optical drives for reading CDs and DVDs.
